# 7. What is a Rack?

A Rack is a special structure where you can place your Miners. You cannot place a Miner in your Room unless you have a Rack.

Therefore, you must obtain a Rack first, and then you can place miners to gain permanent power. Each shelf of a rack has a width of two cells, meaning you can place either two 1-cell Miners or one 2-cell Miner.
